First Eye Clinics Held in Benin by CITA

15 September 2025

In August and September, the ministry Christ Is the Answer (CITA) held its first eye clinics in several villages of Benin, a West African country.

Uedeme Peda, Akodeha, and Seme Oukun. In these villages, CITA volunteers served nearly 400 people. Ninety received eyeglasses after their examinations, and 107 turned to God. The new believers were connected with local pastors of the churches where the outreach events were hosted.

“Ministers have already organized clinics three times, giving people the chance to have their eyesight checked for free, receive eyeglasses, and hear the Good News. During these moments, many experienced the touch of the Holy Spirit as His Word was preached. This is how the Gospel is gradually spreading among the people of Benin, reminding them that God loves them and longs to give salvation to everyone,” shared Taras Sen, director of CITA.

Benin is a country in West Africa with a population of nearly 14.5 million (2024). The official language is French. During the colonial period, the territory served as a hub of the slave trade and was unofficially called the Slave Coast.

Benin is 48.5% Christian, with 25.5% Catholic, 13.5% Protestant, and 9% belonging to other denominations. Another 27.7% of the population is Muslim.

The Constitution and other laws of Benin provide protections for religious minorities. It is not uncommon for members of the same family to practice more than one religion. Foreign missionary groups operate freely in the country. Religious communities are also exempt from taxation and are permitted to establish private schools.
