CITA prints first calendars in Bawm and Urdu languages

In November, the international ministry Christ Is the Answer (CITA) printed the first editions of Christian calendars in Bawm and Urdu for evangelism in Bangladesh and Pakistan. 

According to the Ministry’s director, Taras Sen, the calendars contain a message about Jesus Christ and a brief outline of the way of salvation. They also include contact information of ministers who can be contacted for spiritual help.  

Bawm is the language of the Kuki-Chin people, who number 129,000 in Bangladesh. They live in the Chittagong Hill Tracts.  

The Bawm language is quite developed and contains a large amount of literature, including dictionaries, religious and historical texts, folk tales and books, and science fiction. 

Globally, the tree language is endangered. In Bangladesh, it is stable, but the number of speakers is not increasing.

Urdu (or Lashkari) is the official language of Pakistan and an official language of India. It is spoken by more than 60 million people in these two countries. 

According to the 2017 census, only 10% of Pakistan’s population speaks it.   

More than 91% of the population in Bangladesh and more than 96% in Pakistan identify as Muslims. Christians in these two countries make up 1.3% and 0.1% of the population, respectively.  

In Pakistan, Christ Is the Answer volunteers conduct eye clinics, and in Bangladesh, with the support of the mission, they help widows and orphans with food.
