CITA eye clinics continue to help people in various countries (October report)

6 November 2024

In October, CITA missionaries and volunteers held charity eye clinics in Zaporizhzhia (Ukraine), in the remote areas of Papua New Guinea and in Kyrgyzstan, where they gave out glasses and preached the Gospel.

In Zaporizhzhia, a team of missionaries holds such events twice a month. In October, they were able to reach about 80 citizens. Each participant received a free eye exam and eyeglasses, as well as a loaf of bread.

Ivan, an IDP from Luhansk, came to the eye clinic with vision problems and no money to buy glasses: “They diagnosed me promptly, I am very happy with the treatment and the gift, now it will be easier to live.”

Svitlana, a displaced person from Avdiivka, said that before she received glasses, it was difficult for her to go outside and do housework because of her poor eyesight.

The missionaries usually tell visitors to the eye clinics about the activities of the CITA ministry and their local church, which they are invited to visit after such events.

In Papua New Guinea, in the village of Chili Chili, local missionaries held a charity eye clinic along with a medical event (providing medicine and wound care) for 200 people.

According to missionary Yevhen Konstantynik, it took them six hours to get to the village of Chili Chili by boat and then another six hours to walk. There is no electricity in the village, and most of the people there are unemployed, surviving on gardening and selling cocoa beans in the city. Many of them have impaired eyesight because of the smoke from the fire they always cook on.

Only about 10% of the participants were Christians; all the rest heard about Christ for the first time and received evangelistic literature in addition to the glasses.

Outback Papua New Guineans thanked the missionaries for the eyeglasses, for the fact that they could now read, including the Bible.

In Kyrgyzstan, Ministry volunteers also held a charity eye clinic.

Eye clinics are an effective evangelistic tool that the Ministry has been using for more than 10 years. Each clinic can handle up to 90 people. CITA eye clinics operate in more than 15 countries around the world.
